Endorsement

An author must be endorsed in the relevant subject class before submitting. The requirement, and how endorser status is obtained, are set out under endorsement.

Identifiers

Every item carries an identifier of the form 2608.04471: four digits for the year and month of deposit, then five digits assigned in sequence. A version suffix may be appended, as in 2608.04471v1. An identifier without a suffix resolves to the latest version. In citations the identifier is written arghXiv:2608.04471v1.

Browsing

Items are filed in a subject class, and classes are grouped into archives. An archive page lists its classes; a class listing may be read as new (items filed on the most recent day the class holds), recent (everything, newest first), or by month. An archive may be listed the same three ways, and all lists the whole archive at once. A cross-listed item appears in every class it is listed in.

Classification

An item may additionally carry one or more codes from the Terminal Discourse Classification, shown in the TDC classes row on its abstract page. Codes are supplied by the author. The archive does not check them and has declined to arbitrate the two disputes so far raised about them.

The archive also keeps the response-type manual — the twenty-three named ways a direct question is answered, or is not — because submissions cite it and a cited scheme needs an address.

Most entries are held as an abstract only. The entries whose full text the archive holds are listed together, since they are otherwise found by opening entries one at a time.

Searching

The box in the page header searches the archive. The adjacent menu restricts the search to titles, authors or abstracts; the default searches all three, and the identifier as well. Matching is on plain text and is not case sensitive. There are no operators, and a query of more than one word is matched as a single string.

Full text

Where the archive holds a full text, it is offered as PDF from the access panel on the abstract page. Where it does not, the same panel states why. The format selector linked beside the PDF lists the other formats and the reason each is unavailable. No other format is offered for any item.

Write to the address given on the contact page, quoting the identifier of the item concerned. Help requests are read in the order received and answered in the order resolved.
