Share of Message Volume Composed by Automated Counsel in Extended Disputes
Abstract: Instrumented clients recorded the provenance of every message sent in 296 disputes over 11 months, in which the participants had unrestricted access to an automated advisor. The share of message text composed by the advisor rose from 9 per cent in the first month to 71 per cent in the eleventh, while the number of messages exchanged per dispute per week did not fall. Median human input per outgoing message fell over the same period from 63 words to 9, the modal content of which was an instruction to reply.
