Response Latency and Attributed Impartiality in Automated Counsel
Abstract: Two hundred and forty participants submitted a dispute of their own to an automated advisor whose reply was withheld for 0, 12 or 40 seconds before it was displayed. The reply was identical in all three conditions. Rated impartiality rose monotonically with the delay, from 3.1 to 7.4 on a nine-point scale, and rose fastest among the 78 participants whose reply went against them.
