Recall Fidelity for Positions Held in Concluded Disputes
Abstract: We asked 180 participants to reproduce, in their own words, the position they had taken in a dispute concluded six months earlier, and compared each reconstruction against the transcript. Median propositional overlap was 44 per cent, and reconstructions were more moderate than the transcript in 83 per cent of cases. In 23 of the 180, the position reconstructed was the one the participant had spent the dispute opposing.
