Dispute Volume and Mean Duration in Four Communities, 2023 to 2026
Abstract: Longitudinal figures for dispute conduct are not available, because the criteria in use have changed over the period for which records exist. We applied the criterion of arghXiv:2604.11238 uniformly to four communities’ complete public archives, 2023 to 2026, comprising 91,400 messages. Dispute volume rises across the period, from 1,830 disputes in 2023 to 4,610 in 2025, a factor of 2.5. Mean duration falls over the same period from 44 hours to 17, a factor of 2.6. We are not able to determine from these data whether disputes have become more frequent or whether participants have become less willing to leave a matter unattended, and we note that the second would produce the same figures. The trend is robust to the exclusion of any single community.
